2.2 What we’re looking for this time:

This need is not only for a product targeted at migrants who are spending some time in the UK. We intend that it will be used by British citizens who, perhaps, find it as a bolt-on facility on their county council or town council website. It is designed to be easily navigated as a resource which might:

  • Save pressure on local council switchboards in respect of providing information
  • Reduce queues in local government offices including those of JobCentre Plus
  • Prevent able workers from taking days off to sort out problems – obviously lost time is not in the interests of employers and loses taxable revenue
  • Reduce the incidence of accidents through, for example, carbon monoxide poisoning caused by unchecked gas-fired facilities in rented accommodation
  • Reduce law-breaking through, for example, drink-driving
  • Reduce environmental damage through, for example, fly-tipping and dumping oil
  • Reduce tax-avoidance
  • Reduce the exploitation of foreigners
  • Improve integration within communities, and thereby reduce the risks of strife
  • Reduce the costs of providing policing as well as other emergency services
  • Reduce the costs of providing court services, interpreters, legal aid and other expenses arising from unsatisfactory integration
  • Raise taxable revenue
  • Allow visitors and citizens alike to make the best of the UK in all respects – so this would, for example, encourage volunteering in line with the Big Society
